Summary of experiments and findings. Write after lab report is completed.

Introduction/Background -

Find reference material for Newton's Second Law (look up how Newton actually explained his law), Atwood Machines and material that describes how the Atwood machines are used in high school physics to learn about Newtons' Second law. Keep track of references to write a bibliography in MLA.

Purpose : Find relationship between mass & acceleration and force & acceleration

Procedure and Apparatus

List materials. Used Google Draw to make a drawing of your apparatus and label each portion.

Explain procedure and list independent, dependent and constant variables for each experiment.

Materials: Carts, Pulley, Weights, Washers

Data:

a. Force vs. Acceleration

Total mass of cart + 10 washers = _
Mass of 10 washers/ 10 = mass of one washer = secs Distance cart moves while washers are dropping= cm = m

Graphs:

Force vs. Acceleration (include trend-line and equation)
Mass vs. Acceleration
1/mass vs. acceleration (include trend-line and equation)

Calculations

1. Sample calculation of average time

2. Sample calculation of average force (washers)

3. Sample calculation of acceleration

4. Sample calculation of total mass of system

Discussion/Analysis:

1. Rewrite the equation from the Google Sheets graph to account for variables and units.

2. What is the relationship between force and acceleration? What is relationship between mass and acceleration?

3. How do you think the acceleration would vary if you used a heavy cart for the experiment?

Conclusion -

Restate purpose
List findings (include formula, meaning of slope, meaning of y-intercept)
Defend your results - what evidence do you have to prove your findings? Errors - Calculate percent error for each experiment (accuracy). Discuss precision (R^2 value). List at least 3 specific errors.
